Meet Blake Martin, Ph.D.

I am a licensed clinical psychologist (TX#39616) with extensive experience helping people who, despite their best efforts, feel stuck.

Throughout my career, I’ve had the privilege to work with people who have accomplished a lot. They may be college students, educators, executives, physicians—you name it. Regardless of background, the common thread is they have a track record of solving problems and moving forward. It’s helped them get far in life, but what's worked before isn't working any longer.

I take an active and engaged approach to therapy. Clients have described me as empowering, genuine, and collaborative. I'm also famous (or infamous, depending on your perspective...) for a well-timed dad joke. In therapy, I'll give you evidence-based tools you can rely on long after we've finished working together. My ultimate goal is to equip you to eventually become your own therapist.

I earned my Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from The University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas, Texas and completed an APA-accredited postdoctoral fellowship in trauma psychology at the South Texas VA Medical Center in San Antonio, Texas. I have experience providing psychological services in diverse settings, including: academic medical centers, psycho-oncology clinics, county hospitals, veterans affairs medical centers, and community outpatient clinics. I also maintain an active line of academic research, with peer-reviewed publications related to treatments for traumatic stress, best practices in psychotherapy, addressing the mental health of individuals with cancer, and improving suicide prevention. I regularly present at local and national conferences. You can learn more about my academic work here.

Prior to graduate school, I was a research assistant in Dr. Matthew Nock’s Lab at Harvard University and I taught middle school English in Detroit, Michigan as a proud member of Teach for America. I earned my B.A. from the University of Texas at Austin (hook ‘em!). I also earned a M.A. in counseling and a M.A. in religion from Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary.

Outside of work, I enjoy spending time with my wife and two young kids. I also enjoy attaching my hopes and dreams to the outcome of each Texas Longhorn Football season (this is our year!). I love strong coffee, time outdoors, cycling around San Antonio’s trails, and exploring the hill country.
